In Beirut, Khalil and Nour are trapped in an elevator, and later wander in the city’s eerie night. As a strange sound affects everyone, rumours of an eternal night spread. Time stretches unnaturally, and the moon draws closer to Earth, threatening to plunge the city into endless darkness.

If the synopsis of “Come Nightfall”, the new feature film written by Lebanese filmmaker Mira Adoumier and her co-writer based in Beirut Carine Doumit, tragically resonates with current events, it’s hard to tell whether it is as a premonitory dream or a waking vision.

Mira Adoumier is the recipient of the 2022 Providenza Fidlab grant from the Fid Marseille and is a filmmaker and visual artist. Through her exilic subjectivity, her films explore landscapes at the intersection of centre and periphery, real and imagined, eruptions of the strange and fantastical in the everyday. Carine Doumit writes and edits films, short texts and stories in Arabic, French and English. They are members of the Camelia Committee.
