The Providenza Fields residency program aims to support a cross boundary collective project from a composer or musician designed to go towards the opera, cinema or performance world.
In 2022 Providenza supported Lafawndah's opera La Descente d'Inanna.
Inanna's descent is a family drama about two goddesses who are also sisters. An utopian tale about the origins of mankind and its relationship with nature, this project would propose an immersive staging in five acts, calling upon the talents of various artists. Power sharing, human relationships, nature and women's self-determination are the themes of this epic poem.
The group of residents consisted of Lafawndah, composer and singer, Mehdi Meklat, writer and essayist, Maya Hawid, researcher and philosopher, Chouf, poet, Colin Self, choir music composer, Sandra Berrebi, stylist, Brian Rogers, musician and guitarist.
This two week residency allowed them to start writing and recording vocal and choir music under the supervision of Colin Self, as well as writing the dialogs of the libretto. A trailer was also shot by Antoine Viviani, staging with the characters in the Corsican landscape. The opera is supposed to enter a production phase in 2023.
